Not only did digital cable set-top shipments increase by 75% between 2005 and 2006, global set-top production is supposed to double between now and 2011 according to research firm Understanding and Solutions. A big part of that growth is coming from the switchover to digital broadcast signals, which means we’re looking at an anomaly in the short term. However, given all of the television innovation taking place, there’s potential for growth far beyond this decade. The question is: what will a set-top look like in the future? And how will it get to consumer homes?
