RAZR2 Launch Details

August 10, 2007 : BY Motorola

razr2s.jpg

The official Motorola press release was originally slated to go out next week, but with various leaks occurring, the higher-ups deemed it prudent not to wait that long.

Without further ado:

  • The MOTORAZR2 will be available from Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, US Cellular, and Verizon Wireless. Verizon has already said it will launch the phone in September, but certain carriers (yet to be named) plan to have the RAZR2 available within 14 days. (Back-to-school gift?)
  • There are three versions launching including the V9 (3G HSDPA), V9m (3G EVDO CDMA) and V8 (GSM).
  • One of the features launching with the RAZR2 is “real-time point-to-point video,” otherwise known as “see what I see” technology. The feature will be carrier-dependent.

As I’ve said before, I’m all for sleek design, but it’s the software that I like most on this phone.

Quarterly Shipment Numbers – Digital Set-Tops

August 10, 2007 : BY Motorola

Motorola publishes shipment numbers every quarter (Verizon does a similar quarterly update), but this quarter gets a little tricky because what used to be the Connected Home Solutions business is now the Home and Networks Mobility business with parts of the old Networks business thrown in. (Did you follow that?)

As a result, segment sales went from $1 billion in Q1 to $2.6 billion in Q2. Taking into account the combined sales numbers for the separate businesses a year ago Q2, that comes out to a 9 percent increase.

Below is the breakdown for digital set-top shipments. In the good-news-worth-highlighting column, IPTV set-top shipments are up significantly. There were 604,000 shipped in Q2 versus 362,000 in Q1. READ MORE
