More Olympic Content On-Demand – Verizon Gets Its Share

July 17, 2008 : BY Motorola

Well son of a gun. Apparently the Olympics VOD screenshot I posted yesterday from Verizon FiOS presaged more than just second-tier, on-demand extras around the Games. NBC Universal just announced an official deal with Verizon to distribute on-demand clips and event replays on both FiOS TV and the operator’s V-CAST service.

It had seemed odd to me that NBC U wouldn’t make more of the VOD distribution channel given the growing adoption of VOD services by consumers. Part of the effect of the move toward all-digital television has meant more and more people are watching on-demand programming. Why not take advantage of that audience? In fact, I wonder if we’ll see even more deals in the next few weeks. Comcast? Time Warner? I haven’t seen anything saying the deal with Verizon is exclusive.
