Just one day before the start of the World Cup, and the launch of ESPN’s 3D television channel, I finally got around to looking for locations where I might get in on some of the 3D sports action. Although an early adopter, I’m not so cutting edge that I’ve gone out and bought my own 3D TV set yet. Like many other individuals, I’m waiting for the prices to go down. Still, I figured plenty of broadcasting and retail partners would be hosting events with batches of 3D glasses to go around. Not so. Kent Gibbons and Todd Spangler at Multichannel News did some research and found that none of the big names have events planned. Not ESPN, or Comcast, or DirecTV.
Guess I’ll be looking for coverage of the 3D launch after the fact. Hey, Comcast Voices blog, I’m looking at you. How will 3D soccer coverage differ from the Masters Tournament? Will there be a goalie cam?
