Network Infrastructure

This blog normally covers North America but some news out of Latin America peeked my interest today. HBO Latin America has completed the deployment of Motorola’s SE-5100 encoder high definition services to subscribers. The press release notes that “HBO-LA will upgrade its satellite network using MPEG-4 video encoding and DVB-S2 8PSK advanced modulation to launch all MPEG-4 programming” and subscribers will be able to enjoy high quality, HD programming and advanced television services throughout their region.

Here’s how it works: The SE-5100 receives video content and converts it into MPEG-4 format for satellite distribution to all HBO-LA subsidiaries. The content is received and processed with Motorola’s multi-format Integrated Receiver and Decoder which can be configured to deliver HD channels in MPEG-4 which will enable the SE-5100 to provide top notch video quality over a long period of time to subscribers without service interruption.
