Converged Experiences, Events

At Jornadas Internacionales 2012 in Argentina, the Motorola Home team showcased how we’re driving the future of television with an end-to-end solution suite that is designed to create unique experiences, optimize services management, expand the home ecosystem and support the transition to IP.

The theme at the show for Motorola was ‘TV beyond the TV,’ and on display in our booth were many of our innovative software solutions such as DreamGallery and SecureMedia, as well as the latest products from our vast portfolio of innovative and eco-friendly set-tops.  Additionally, an exclusive media event was hosted by Motorola where reporters were given a first-hand look at these products and more. All were very well received and created plenty of buzz in Latin America’s industry media.

Check out some Moto booth photos from the show below.

Events, Network Infrastructure

Soon, you won’t have explain to your children why you had to erase “Sesame Street” to get in last night’s episode of “Game of Thrones.” Record as much content as you want, and store it in the cloud. You can call it the peacemaker. We call it nDVR.

With nDVR and Motorola’s cloud technology in your court, you’ll even be able to watch your recorded shows on any device, whenever you want. That’s true TV Everywhere. Our brilliant analysts tell us that mobile viewing increased more than five times in the past year, so we expect this will be good news for a lot of you. It has been for us.

Check out the video below from a few Motorola employees discussing their need for nDVR.

Motorola Televation™ for Comcast AnyPlay

January 10, 2012 : BY Motorola

If you have to fight to watch your favorite program on the family television, we Motorolans feel your pain. And we have a solution: Motorola Televation.

Globally, 69% of us are already watching TV on devices other than the television and (according to Kantar Worldpanel Comtech) more than 30 million Americans own a tablet.

Our new Televation product lets you stream your full channel line-up to your tablet, live, over your home network so that you can watch it anywhere in your house. And, unlike other streaming devices, with Televation you don’t have to compete with the guys in the living room for what channel to play on your tablet. You’re not just watching what they’re watching on another screen; you are in control of your regular channels, whenever you want.

No wonder Televation was conferred Light Reading’s Leading Light Award andCommunications Technology’s Platinum Award.

Comcast is beginning to roll out a new service based on Televation, called AnyPlay, in Denver and Nashville.

Find out more about the new Comcast AnyPlay service in the Comcast Voices blog post, “AnyPlay Brings Live TV to the Tablet.”  For more info on Televation, visit here.

Motorola Mobility Kicks-Off SCTE Cable-Tec Expo

November 15, 2011 : BY Motorola

Today, Motorola Mobility’s chairman and CEO Sanjay Jha took the stage with Cox Communication’s president Pat Esser to kick off SCTE’s annual conference, Cable-TEC Expo in Atlanta, Ga.

Sanjay’s opening remarks focused on the converged experience and how Motorola Mobility is not just a set-top box company, but one that provides a customized user experience via software and services. He goes on to say that converging wireless and home services are a “bucking bronco” and that it changes every three months, creating new opportunities for cable providers.

Sanjay also mentioned five times more people are watching content on mobile devices than a year ago. He continues stating that looking forward, personal devices will become increasingly important to consumers, and consumers will expect more computing power.

According to SCTE president and CEO Mark Dzuban, overall registration for the show is higher than last year and operators are now sending more of their decision makers to attend.  More updates from the show to come soon!

Converged Experiences

Motorola Mobility announced today that Global Village Telecom (GVT), a Brazilian telecommunications provider, has selected Motorola’s EDGE Manager, part of Motorola’s EDGE Service Assurance software portfolio, to provide remote management and whole home service assurance to its high-speed internet customers.

In addition to proactive monitoring and automated preventive maintenance updates of deployed customer gateways or other equipment, help desk agents will now also be able remotely access and support customer home networks real-time while the customer is on the phone, greatly speeding up the diagnostic process, shortening the support call and in many cases avoiding the need to dispatch a technician to the customer location. This will result in more satisfied customers and also in operational support cost savings for GVT. Customers can now manage their entire home network from a single platform while also allowing greater troubleshooting capabilities for a simplified, comprehensive converged media experience.

IP Set-Tops Growing to 21M This Year

September 22, 2011 : BY Motorola

On Wednesday, analyst firm In-Stat shared some exciting predictions for the IP set-top market. New research from the firm shows that the market is growing and predicted unit shipments for IP set-tops will exceed 21 million by the end of the year. Another interesting forecast is that overall shipments of IP set-tops will increase 48% in 2012.

The research also indicated that we are still the market share leader in the space.

Research Director Michelle Abraham said, “Future increases for IP set-top box shipments will likely be driven by service providers moving to a server/client architecture where there is a media gateway/server located in the media room of the house that shares its content with client boxes that are distributed throughout the rest of the home.”

We are excited that this research echoes what we’re seeing and hearing from customers, and supports our perspective on the value of IP set-tops across the market. Do these forecasts align with what you are seeing? What do you think is next for IP set-tops?

Shelly Palmer on the Two Types of Consumers

September 21, 2011 : BY Motorola

At Motorola’s User’s Conference this morning, Live Digital with Shelly Palmer’s host Shelly Palmer outlined to attendees his take on how this industry is changing at a rapid pace. Shelly has a fascinating vantage point on how the industry is transforming and the impact on consumers. He focused a good amount of his presentation touching on the two types of consumers – connected and not connected. Shelly noted something that we well know in this space – consumers will pay for convience. However, this doesn’t mean they’ll pay for less than stellar quality or access to content.

Rather than dive deep into Shelly’s points, we’ll let him do the talking in a brief video touching on connected and not connected consumers. He also spoke to several other valuable points from his presentation, and we’ll share the videos here in the near future.

Convergence @ the Speed of Life

September 21, 2011 : BY Motorola

This morning at Motorola Mobility’s User’s Conference, Dan Moloney, president, kicked  off the day by outlining his views on convergence and how it’s taking place at the speed of life. The fact is that consumers are pressing this convergence to happen and happen quickly.

Dan explained the challenges inherent in this new, rapidly changing world – and how the company is working with its partners to transform them into strategic opportunities. I particularly loved Dan’s vision of the new Digital Living Room: where you can enjoy a host of personalized converged experiences….live TV on your Tablet, SocialTV, Remote Home Monitoring, Personal Clouds – all made simple and delivered to you by your service provider.

We spoke with Dan following his presentation and he touched on these challenges and opportunities in this short video. Stay tuned here for more videos from Dan and other speakers who will discuss what’s next for the industry.
